Tuna fish (Thunnus obesus), is an important food fish and recreational game fish. It is a true tuna of the genus Thunnus, belonging to the wider mackerel family (scombridae­). Thunnini comprises of fifteen species across five genera. Tuna, Opah, mackerel shirks are the only species of fish that can maintain their body temperature higher than that of the surrounding water. 
Tuna is among the fastest swimming fish, the yellow fin tuna is capable of speed of up to 75km per hour. The fresh or frozen flesh of tuna is widely regarded as a delicacy in most area where it is shipped. Tuna is source of omega-3 fatty acids. It can contain up to 300 milligrams per serving, the level of omega-3 oils found in some canned tuna fish is highly variable since some common manufacturing methods destroy much of the omega-3 oil in the fish.

Tuna is an excellent source of selenium, vitamin B3, vitamin B6, and high level of protein.
