Ginger (zingiber officinale) is a flowering plant whose rhizome, ginger root is widely used as a spice or as folk medicine. It is an herbaceous perennial plant which grows annual pseudo-stems about a meter tall bearing narrow leaf blades.

Ginger is a native to Southeast Asia, ginger root we eat today is an underground rhizome of the ginger plant. This root can come in a variety of colors ranging from yellow, white brown, and red, and the thickness depend on how old the plant is.
